GTSM FAQ's and Resources

What is GTSM?

GTSM stands for Glad Tidings Student Ministries. It is the service dedicated to students in grades 6-12 that takes place in the fellowship center here on the Glad Tidings’ campus.

What are the times?

Sunday mornings - 9:30-10:45 a.m. ~ GTSM Youth Group meets in the Fellowship Center for worship, teaching, and youth-centered activities.

Sunday evenings - 6:00-8:00 p.m. ~ GTSM Small Groups gather in the Fellowship Center for Bible study, snacks, and fun activities.

Wednesday evenings - 7:00-8:15 p.m. ~ GTSM Student Intern Program. Alternate activities are provided for students not involved in the intern program. To learn more about GTSM Student Interns, click this link.

What happens at GTSM?

There is a large group game or activities that take place pre-service that encourage students to get to know each other and have fun. After games, we move into announcements and “mumbo” which is our greeting time. From there, students will be lead into passionate worship, singing songs from contemporary worship bands like: Hillsong, Jesus Culture, Desperation Band, etc. Following worship Pastor Josh delivers a message designed to meet teens right where they are and to challenge them to a close walk with God. The message generally ends with an altar response that provides teens an opportunity to pray about and think over the things they just heard. After service, students have the opportunity to visit the café, play video games, take part in the large group activity, or just hang out with their friends.

What are Small Groups?

Small groups are designed to actively get students into God’s Word and see how it applies to their lives. Small groups will meet on Sunday nights from 6:00-8:00 p.m. During this time,  students will watch a 15 to 20 minute video teaching and then break into groups based on age and gender where they will discuss and engage the text for about 45 minutes. Small groups will end with time for everyone to come together.

What are some resources parents can check out to get a better understanding of the culture their teens are in?

GTSM Website - http://gtsmyouth.com/
Visit the GTSM website to learn about current youth events as well as the vision for Glad Tidings Student Ministries.

Kids in Mind - http://www.kidsinmind.com/
Kids in mind is a website that enables you as a parent to make knowledgeable choices for the movies you family watches and  your student desires to go see. They rate each movie based on three criteria, sex, violence, and language, and give you the details about what is really in the movie.

The Source 4 Parents - http://www.thesource4parents.com/
The Source 4 Parents is a website created by Jonathon Mckee. Jonathon has been in youth ministry for quite some time and has written many books including his most recent “Candid confessions of an imperfect parent”. His goal is to equip parents with resources, and articles that provide parents with knowledge about the culture, music, movies, and things students engage with on a daily basis.

Home Word - http://www.homeword.com/
Another resource for parents. This site also includes a daily devotional that you can use with your students.
